Susan Bates

I have always found pleasure in color, line, and texture. Since childhood, I have been happiest
when creating three dimensional forms with whatever materials were available; paper, cardboard, clay, fabric, beads, and now metal. For the last ten years I have enjoyed creating earrings, bracelets, and necklaces using a variety of forging and fabricating techniques. I use copper, bronze, brass, gold, and sterling silver, and finish the pieces with unique textures, patinas, or stones. My interest in the studio bounces back and forth between geometric and organic shapes, brilliantly reflective and matte textured finishes, surface decoration and streamlined form. So many choices! My wish is to translate my joy in working with metal and stone into comfortable, everyday jewelry with a contemporary spirit.
